The Changing Times ~ Take a Moment to Remember...

This last week I had an epiphany of what our society has transcended to compared to 15 years ago...
The more technological advances we achieve, the less we physically communicate personally with those around us and the more complex our personal lifestyles become with the focus not being socially oriented but more task oriented - defined by what we achieve in a day rather than the commitment we put into the quality time we spend with loved ones that are a part of our lives.

We live in a society now where you, or I do at least, feel compelled to text first for an invitation on if it's alright to call them and have a chat in which a lot of the time that is far too much effort and we conclude with ignoring the idea altogether and going on with our lives.  We also limit impromptu visitations - you're in a friend's town for the day? You're driving past a relative's house? Awesome... keep on driving - it's not planned... we didn't set it up on Facebook, they won't like us just dropping by.  Wow, how times have changed.  Sad to say I came to this realisation with my attitude on the exact matter discussed.  I remember at the end of the last century how it was accustomed to randomly visit your neighbours and receive visits from loved ones.  I remember how my Mother would receive a telephone call just from someone wanting to chat and catch up on recent news. This was what was normal and this is what we have lost in today's day and age.  We need to bring back the friendly, good neighbourly characteristics we lost in the technological age we now live. We need to look at our attitudes when loved ones unexpectedly want to catch up, whether it's through a random skype call when you're still in your pajamas, or a telephone call whilst your watching a movie or a random visit that was not planned.  We need to take time and cherish, physically cherish, the outstretched hand of communication loved ones are giving us in their convenience and remember to do likewise to others because we do not know when that one day will come when we will no longer have that opportunity.
